What’s so “dangerous”?

I tried pretty hard to come up with a blog theme/focus that wouldn’t be too over-the-top, generic, vaguely “inspirational” or trying-too-hard-to-be-cool.  Calling it “Dangerous Business” seems to already fail these criteria.  But let me make some things clear. I have no fantasy that the blog will whisk its readers into a magical world of excitement, fortune or mayhem.  I understand that it might not appeal to hardly anyone, ever.  I know it poses no tangible risk to anyone, not even the possibility of paper-cut since it’s not in physical print. Seems like the only inherent “Danger” could be your tweaking a finger while navigating your mouse, or the like.

Still, if you didn’t notice upon arrival, the blog title has an origin — it’s from JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. The quote is by one Frodo Baggins telling his friends one of his uncle Bilbo’s old sayings.  If you’ve never heard of any of that, and are wondering who these strange-sounding people are, then maybe start by going out to read this classic story for yourself (or, label me “nerd” and move on).  The idea is, these young characters find themselves in adventure, unwarranted and open-ended adventure, and this quote captures a good feeling — that there is danger and doom, but also certainly life, in getting out of one’s door and being swept down the road.

So, the blog is a reflection on life, faith and Church, worship and Scripture, as well as news and culture.  Hopefully it will be something to draw myself and others out and down the Road, to God-knows-where.  Hopefully in that sense it will be an invitation to doom and danger, and life.
